This represents a significant change from the outgoing XC70, which was related to the Volvo S60. Now based on Volvo's EuCD platform, the XC70 shares major components and systems with the flagship S80. "With the help of the intelligent overlapping tailgate, which takes the taillights up with it when it is opened, the space inside the vehicle is larger than before and easy to load," says Steve Mattin, Volvo's Design Director. Distinctive rear styling is enhanced with hexagonal design language plus rear glass that extends further down than the side windows for improved rearward visibility. Rugged elegance embodies the new XC70 with refined lines, athletic shoulders and pronounced wheel housings. With new styling cues, improved driving dynamics, enhanced luxury, sophisticated technology and innovative safety features, Volvo ups the ante in taking its popular crossover to the next level.
